Wrap-Up on Backup from Veritas Vision 2017

It would be easy to assume that because the Veritas name has been around for more than 20 years, its products are all legacy and no longer suitable to modern data centers or IT scenarios; you would be wrong. Veritas is “back” after its divestiture from Symantecwith a laser focus on data management that very effectively narrates a comprehensive portfolio to its customers and partners.

Veritas has a Singular Vision....(includes video)

In line with the convenient Latin root of its name, Veritas demonstrated that it was holding true to its established vision, at its equally-conveniently-named Vision conference last week.

What “truths” were there? On the entertaining side of things we learnt from Lynn Lucas (CMO) that humans have way more than five senses, that Mike Palmer (CPO) remains a wonderful stage storyteller (in this instance with a Dystopian IT future pastiche), and that guest-speaker Richard Branson – following on from the awful recent hurricanes – has not prioritized buying new socks!

Veritas Vision Recap: Leveraging Data for Multi-Cloud (Video)

I've just come back from Veritas Vision 2017 and my colleague Mark Peters and I shot an ESG On Location video report from the show. Now, traditionally, Veritas has been known only for their backup and data protection solutions like Backup Exec and NetBackup. The changes for Veritas have been coming since their spinoff from Symantec last year.

This year, we saw a continued rebirth of Veritas, with a strong positioning of itself beyond simply being a data custodian and manager to being a data insights provider. Veritas is strongly embracing a multi-cloud, hyperscale product portfolio, with new products centered around data access and data management. This is an extremely smart move on Veritas' part, leveraging the strong access they have to data, across on- and off-premises, to transform themselves into providers of that data access.

Wrap-up on Backup – from Veritas Sales Conference FY18

This week, I had the privilege of being part of Veritas’ global Sales Conference (VSC), which Veritas themed as ‘Right Now FY18.’  Much of my early career was in pre-sales engineering and field enablement, so I always enjoy “internal” conferences, as much if not more than “external” trade shows, because:

Vision 2016: Bringing Veritas into Focus (includes video)

Safely removed from the loving embrace of Symantec, and with new owner Carlyle Group’s financial clout at the ready, Veritas held a “coming out” (pun probably intended) party at its recent Vision event.

Under the somewhat plain theme that “Information is Everything,” the event was fully focused on Veritas staking its claim – certainly its intent – to be(come) a data management platform. Before I make a few other points about the event, take a look at this video that has summary comments from my colleague Jason Buffington as well as me. And if you’d like additional insights from Jason (@JBuff) on the data protection angles of Veritas Vision, you can check out his vblog at http://bit.ly/jbESGvtas16a

New Veritas = New Vision

This week, the newly unencumbered Veritas (from Symantec) relaunched its premier user event – Veritas Vision. There was a palpable energy that resonated around “we’re back and ready to resume our leadership mantle,” starting with an impressive day one from main stage:

Data Protection Perspectives from HP Discover 2015

My colleague Mark Peters and I attended HP Discover 2015 last week to get an updated view of the storage and data protection innovations being announced at the event. What was heartening for me was that one of HP’s core four pillars was “Protect” where the new Hewlett Packard Enterprise company talks about its converged approach to information security and data protection (backup), which includes backup and archival software, as well as the HP StoreOnce deduplication storage solutions.

Welcome Back, Veritas! The Truth Is Still the Truth

Today, Symantec announced that the Information Management (Data Protection) side of Symantec will be called Veritas Technologies Corporation (press release). Frankly, if they had chosen anything else, I would have been disappointed.
