Research Brief: Application and Data Management Trends

ESG research indicates that organizations deploying new applications in 2011 will focus on both revenue-generating and back-office applications to support key business process improvement initiatives. These new applications will require specialized skills in application development and database administration—two areas in which both enterprise and midmarket companies expressed a problematic shortage of existing skills. Aggressive deployment plans coupled with a lack of staffing will create new dynamics in application delivery models, specifically the use of Software-as-a-Service, simplified on-premises application architectures, or a combination of both.
