Research Brief: Why IT Projects Fail

As end-users return to investments driven by new application rollouts and business process improvement, 2011 will usher in a return to “Big Project IT.” Activities will revolve around new business intelligence systems, data center refreshes and moves, and a shift to more highly-virtualized infrastructure. However, with only 29% of organizations planning to increase spending on IT professional services to tackle these new projects, services firms must improve and align messaging to show end-users how their involvement will increase the likelihood of success for these projects. Understanding where customers are most challenged in project execution can inform these efforts.
