This ESG Lab Report summarizes the results of independent, third-party testing of the QLogic 10000 Series 8Gb Fibre Channel Adapter with a focus on database performance improvements and cache effectiveness in single-server and multi-server environments. Also of interest was the transaction latency impact when using remote cache versus local cache in a multi-server environment. The QLogic 10000 Series Adapter is designed to help datacenters extend the life of their existing IT investment and provide a wide range of application performance benefits with a non-disruptive deployment approach.
This report examines Quantum’s DXi6800 Series disk backup appliance with an emphasis on high performance data protection and disaster recovery and simple pay-as-you-grow scalability for midrange and enterprise organizations. In alignment with Quantum's broad and deep data protection portfolio, ESG Lab examined the performance, data availability, scalability, and encryption capabilities of the DXi6800. Additional testing included virtual machine backup and archiving with Quantum’s vmPRO, disaster recovery solutions with Scalar tape libraries and Q-Cloud services, management with Vision software, and integration with independent software vendor (ISV) offerings such as Symantec's NetBackup OpenStorage (OST) and Auto Image Replication (AIR).
ESG Lab validated that a Quantum DXi6802 was able to sustain the same 11.9TB per hour of multithreaded enterprise backup throughput in both fully configured and entry level configurations. The “pay as you grow” performance and capacity scalability, combined with advanced security features were found to be suited to a wide range of requirements for backup and disaster recovery (DR). Testing also illustrated how the DXi6800 works with other elements of Quantum’s comprehensive data protection portfolio to meet customers’ needs across physical, virtual and cloud environments.
This ESG Lab Validation is an update to a 2008 report on IBM SAN Volume Controller (SVC), and includes new testing to highlight the efficiency of IBM Real-time Compression (RTC) and ease of management with the new graphical user interface (GUI). Additional topics include performance, agility, and high availability.
