ESG Research Report: Enterprise Big Data, Business Intelligence, and Analytics Trends: Redux

Abstract:

There is still confusion in the market about the current state of data initiatives, especially when it comes to the potential impact of big data on traditional business intelligence and analytics practices. Customers and vendors alike are working to build robust solutions even as new approaches, technologies, and best practices continue to evolve rapidly. Still, few can accurately assess the motivations, impacts, and implications of the shifts. ESG undertook a broad study to establish a baseline on various data initiatives and their relative maturity.

ESG Research Report: Network Automation: Enabler of IT Process Goals

Abstract:

In order to assess how enterprise organizations are evaluating, deploying, and operationalizing their network automation systems, ESG surveyed 247 IT professionals representing enterprise-class (1,000 or more employees) and midmarket (100 to 999 employees) organizations in North America. All respondents were involved in evaluating, purchasing, and managing data center networking technologies for their organizations and organizations had to be using, planning to use, or interested in using network automation technology.

By using a broad definition of network automation, ESG sought to understand the underlying needs for automation as well as its benefits. ESG did not lead the respondents to a particular definition, but instead provided wide latitude in accepting their definitions within the limits provided.

Survey participants represented a wide range of industries, including financial services, manufacturing, business services, communications and media, and government. For more details, please see the Research Methodology and Respondent Demographics sections of this report.

ESG Brief: Clearing the SDS Integration Hurdle

Abstract:

The emergence of public cloud services has been a wake-up call to the providers of on-premises storage solutions. As a result, a rising crop of storage solutions have emerged, including software-defined storage (SDS), seeking to rival cloud with greater agility and cost-effectiveness. While the ability to deploy storage as software is garnering excitement, some IT organizations find the concept of procuring storage software and hardware separately daunting. Inherent in software, however, is deployment flexibility. And some providers are finding ways to lower the hurdles of SDS-based storage deployment.

ESG Brief: CounterTack: Next-generation, Big Data Endpoint Security and Response

Abstract:

In today’s dynamic business environment, data breaches continue to occur at an alarming rate. Staying ahead of cybercriminals can be a seemingly endless, though essential, undertaking for already-stretched IT personnel. While there is no silver bullet for thwarting an increasing variety of cyber threats, including exploits and malware, organizations should be looking to add next-generation endpoint security controls, including endpoint detection and response (EDR) solutions (a combination of detection, analysis, and real-time response and remediation capabilities), to their arsenal. Companies need to augment traditional signature-based antivirus with endpoint detection and response solutions as a means of mitigating advanced and often targeted security threats. With a number of options on the market today, next-generation endpoint detection and response vendor CounterTack is offering solutions that address those endpoint security challenges throughout the cybersecurity attack lifecycle.

ESG Brief: Salesforce’s Trailhead: An Innovative Approach to Improving User Skills

Abstract:

Salesforce held its first ever developer conference in June 2016. The conference provided Salesforce with an opportunity to focus completely on Trailhead, which is a lightweight approach for learning how to leverage the Salesforce portfolio. The appeal of Trailhead is that it is bite-size, engaging, hands-on, free, accessible through a browser, and has a formal recognition process (badges) for courses (modules) completed. Because talent management professionals are now including badges as a way to evaluate Salesforce skills, there is also a growing economic incentive to acquire Salesforce badges. We anticipate that Trailhead will help drive significant added adoption of Salesforce because it is now easier to find skilled Salesforce employees.
