ESG Brief: Blockchain - Appearing on IT's Ledger

Abstract:

Research conducted by ESG reveals that a healthy number of IT organizations are at least testing the waters of blockchain technology, especially in verticals like financial services, telco, and transportation. As organizations look for ways to leverage blockchain to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs by leveraging a secure, decentralized platform that can help eliminate the middle man of transaction-based aspects of their business, continued proof points across verticals will go a long way to simplify the core concepts and clarify the benefits that organizations can achieve through the disruptive technology in their specific businesses.

ESG Brief: 2018 Application Development Spending Priorities

Abstract:

As enterprise organizations evolve their digital transformation initiatives, the need for them to become more agile in application development is often a lynchpin in the viability of these efforts. ESG’s research has found that, when it comes to application development initiatives and strategies, formalizing DevOps practices and developing new mobile applications were among organizations’ top spending priorities for the next 12-18 months. These top initiatives are driven by an organization’s overall application development output, with strong correlations between the need to formally implement DevOps practices with the size and number of applications deployed.

ESG Brief: Perspectives on Readiness for and Impact of GDPR

Abstract:

With the May 2018 deadline a mere four months away, are organizations ready for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)? According to ESG research, there is still work ahead. Many firms aren’t completely prepared and may have to make incremental technology purchases for GDPR compliance over the next few months. Furthermore, organizations need to button down their incident response plans so they are prepared to report breaches to supervisory authorities within 72 hours as stipulated by GDPR. To address the many GDPR challenges ahead, ESG recommends focusing on areas like data discovery/classification, identity and access management, encryption, and IR planning.

ESG Brief: Cloud Increases Systems Management Complexity and Capability

Abstract:

The continued rise in the use of public cloud infrastructure services has not been accompanied by an equivalent rise in systems management capabilities to support managing those services.
