But there will be some shortages, for the next six months at least, which means hard drive prices will continue to be elevated. The good news, as Mark Peters, a senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, points out, is that hard drive prices arent as significant as they might seem at first glance. "The cost of a hard disk drive is certainly not the only cost of a storage system," he said. "If you double the cost of the hard drives, you may only increase the cost of a storage system as a whole by 15 percent. The TCO will rise by an even smaller amount."
