Cohesity Goes After The Decentralized Enterprise

Data Protection

branch-locationMost enterprises have many decentralized locations and sometimes operate a model where there is no real “central” data center. Our research shows that these ROBO topologies are particularly sensitive to data protection challengesfor example, at organizations with many branches (retail, food chains, gas stations, etc.).

Cohesity is seeing an opportunity to help these organizations and just announced an extension to its data management offerings for the enterprise edge with a new plug-and-play physical appliance that is specifically designed and tuned for enterprise ROBO locations. These locations do not typically have extensive IT staffing and need an easy to deploy and manage (remotely, ideally) platform. By using the same software that since its inception has been designed for the IT generalist, these decentralized organizations can now deploy the same solution that you’d find in data center and cloud environments.

It’s important to note that this is not marketed as an SMB offering or “one off” type of solution. In other words, Cohesity very wisely approached the packaging and marketing to sell multiple units at a time. In doing so, they are not only addressing the decentralized enterprise but also providing a great option for the high end of the mid-market. This will get noticed by a number of players who actively sell in this space.

The new solution combines Cohesity software with certified 1U1N servers from Cohesity’s technology partners, Cisco and Hewlett Packard Enterprises (HPE) and is available exclusively through their go-to-market channels. The new offering is available in 4TB and 8TB usable capacity and includes Cohesity DataPlatform Standard Edition and Cohesity DataProtect preloaded on Cisco UCS C220 M5L or HPE ProLiant DL 360 Gen 10 rack server.

It complements the “traditional” offerings Cohesity already has in market and opens up a bunch of new opportunities to expand “share of wallet” in existing accounts that include decentralized topologies.

Execution in the channel and go-to-market discipline will be key for the success of this solution, which has every reason to be successful…. and it will keep competitors on their toes.
