"Keep Austin Weird" proclaimed Dell at their big analyst event last week, setting the tone for what was to be a rather impressive event. From a humvee with hardened hardware to hors d'oeuvres at Seersucker, there was clearly a vibe proclaiming, "We're back, and we'll do what we do best." Which turns out to be rather a lot of different things. After being ribbed for bringing a MacBook Air to the rodeo, I decided to head for my comfort zone: big data and analytics.
Even this topic had its own energy with the recently acquired Statistica (or STATISTICA if you must) being bandied as the new core of a well-rounded portfolio. For mid-market companies looking to build a new big data approach onto their existing data warehouses and applications, Dell now is in position to offer everything from the underlying infrastructure up through the visual reporting tools for advanced analytics users, along with capable professional services teams to show the way.
