If you are reading this blog, it’s already too late for me, but you still have a chance to save yourself. I’ve fallen in with the wrong crowd, and find myself surrounded by an armada of analysts, a ream of researchers, and a cabal of client segment coordinators. There is a door marked “Lab” which emits strange clanking and whimpering sounds, but absolutely no light. Run, whilst you have the chance, you’ve been warned….
Still here? Ok, then. Let’s talk data.
First, who is this blog for? Or rather: for whom is this blog? It’s for those who believe asking the right question, with the right syntax, matters. Topics will include:
- Big data
- Business intelligence
- Business analytics
- Data management
- Data mining
- Data warehousing
- E-commerce & marketing
- Hadoop distributions
- Social analytics
- Structured and unstructured data tools
Second, why should you care? Data drives business. You can’t manage what you can’t measure. It’s not good to be flying blind. Guessing doesn’t count, you need to show your work. Content is king. Hope is not a strategy. Look, people invest phenomenal amounts of time, money, and other resources to collect data, but that’s all wasted unless you can derive some sharp insights from the haystack.
This blog is for those who want to understand the meaning of life. It’s for the seekers of truth. Think King Pelinore and his questing beast. Think Indiana Jones going into the cave looking for fortune and glory. Think Yoda and the ability to sense any small disturbance in the Force. Think Neo learning to use the Matrix to do the impossible. Try not to think about Miley Cyrus, she is probably more than two standard deviations away and isn’t relevant here.
If you want a clue about harnessing the power of data, this blog’s for you, my friend.
