ESG Brief: Google Cloud Targeting Enterprise Cloud Users with Google Next ‘18 Announcements

Abstract:

At the recent Google Next ‘18 conference, Google made several significant announcements about Google Cloud and the Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The new GCP services and programs were a clear sign that Google is focused on meeting the needs of enterprise cloud users. Google discussed new programs and offers to support enterprise users, and the product announcements showed that hybrid cloud is an important cloud model for GCP. Companies that are using cloud computing should carefully consider the Google offerings and move beyond the perception that GCP is focused on consumer or cloud-native-only workloads.

ESG Brief: The Increasing Business Value of Network Infrastructure

Abstract:

The initial—and typically de facto—party to blame for any IT outage is the network. As a result, the network is perceived to be a problematic burden rather than a strategic resource and is subsequently derided as being a cost center. However, in a time when organizations are increasingly leveraging cloud computing services and pursuing initiatives like digital transformation and IoT, the network is more important than ever.

ESG Brief: Workflow Orchestration Your Way with Google Cloud Composer

Abstract:

When complex workflows don’t perform as anticipated, IT can end up spending valuable time addressing infrastructure challenges rather than revenue-generating activities. Google’s Cloud Composer serves as an effective, end-to-end workflow orchestration tool to address the challenges of building, scheduling, and managing complex workflows across diverse environments. With Cloud Composer, Google continues to focus on building integrated solutions that incorporate intelligence and machine learning, while enabling flexibility and portability by being anchored in open source technology.

ESG Brief: Enabling Data Center Modernization with Converged and Hyperconverged Infrastructure

Abstract:

As organizations pursue IT modernization initiatives, they are focused on achieving operational excellence, while ensuring that IT can efficiently and effectively respond to the business. Both converged infrastructure (CI) and hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) solutions contribute to this goal of making organizations more agile not only by making deployment and management of IT infrastructure easier, but also by enabling IT to rapidly respond to the needs of end-users. Whether it allows organizations to build consumable services on a private cloud anchored by CI/HCI, or empowers developers to spin up and down resources themselves at will, a cloud-like experience on-premises is becoming a must-have for organizations looking to modernize their data centers and embark on their digital transformation journeys.

ESG Brief: The Growth in the Use of Application Containers

Abstract:

Over the past several years, application containers and container management platforms, such as Docker and Kubernetes, have emerged as a new application packaging and delivery format, optimized for more agile application management and delivery. But with this rise has come questions about both the level of adoption and pervasiveness of usage for containers. Research conducted by ESG shows that containers are quickly moving from labs into production via the continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) DevOps methodologies being employed by many organizations that now manage infrastructure as code (IaC). But ESG also found that the move to containers doesn’t exclude existing application deployment methods, nor are containers limited to only new cloud-native applications.

ESG Brief: 2018 Public Cloud Infrastructure Trends

Abstract:

As organizations continue to leverage digital transformation for both their business and IT groups, the use of public cloud infrastructure has become a key driver for that transformation. As the use of public cloud infrastructure becomes a standard operational model, use of multiple cloud service providers, or multi-cloud, is also growing to meet the needs of transformation efforts. ESG’s research has found that these strategies are widespread and commonly driven by an organization’s application requirements.
