Senior Lab Analyst Vinny Choinski provides independent, hands-on validation and analysis of emerging storage hardware and software products. Vinny came to ESG in 2010, bringing with him more than 20 years of experience in data storage design and management, including developing an end-user-tailored delivery methodology for data protection, virtualization, and storage architecture solutions. Prior to joining ESG, Vinny spent a decade working at Daymark Solutions as its director of technology and Glasshouse Technologies as director of consulting services, focused on service delivery methodology and delivery team development.

Cyber-recovery Data Protection Challenges

The percentage of IT/information security executives and managers that believe cyber-risk is greater than it was 2 years ago.1 The percentage of data protection professionals that identified loss of employee productivity as a major impact that could result from application downtime or lost data.2

IT executives are noticing an increasing risk of cyber-attacks. And this risk is leading them to build more comprehensive data protection and cyber-resiliency strategies in an effort to protect their organizations from the detriments of application downtime and lost data. ESG research also shows that loss of employee productivity is the most cited impact that respondents believe could result from application downtime or lost data, followed by other challenges such as diversion of IT resources from business-critical projects, loss of customer and employee confidence, loss of revenue, and more.

The percentage of organizations that believe application consistent backups across multiple containers is critical or very important.1 The percentage of respondents who identify managing backup/recovery of container-based applications in hybrid cloud environments as one of their biggest challenges related to managing backup/disaster recovery for container environments.

Container adoption is accelerating and so too is the requirement to properly protect container environments and the data in them. ESG research indicates that, so far, IT professionals are often just kicking the can down the road. While many organizations recognize the growing importance of containers relative to other vital application platforms, their confidence levels in their ability to protect containerized workloads are lagging.

Validation testing was designed to demonstrate z/TPF integration and management, the capacity-on-demand feature, overall system performance of the latest model, and compression performance, in particular.
