Introduction

This report documents ESG’s validation of Dell Technologies’ VxRail Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) running on the latest Dell EMC PowerEdge servers with 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors and VxRail HCI System Software. ESG’s focus was on how VxRail on nex- generation PowerEdge servers enables organizations to bring even more mission-critical, high-performance workloads to VxRail with refined simplicity, increasing organizations’ opportunities to leverage VxRail’s management, efficiency, and flexibility benefits.

Abstract

This ESG Technical Review documents hands-on evaluation of the Dell EMC PowerFlex software-defined infrastructure solution. Testing was designed to illustrate how the PowerFlex software-defined infrastructure platform achieves high levels of performance, scalability, availability, and manageability.

Introduction

Introduction

This report documents performance testing of the NVMe over FC (NVMe/FC) feature of the IBM FlashSystem 9200 array in a VMware and Oracle Database environment. This testing includes a comparison of NVMe/FC and SCSI over FC (SCSI/FC) protocols using Emulex Gen 7 32G Fibre Channel (FC) Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) in the server and storage array along with the Gen 7 Brocade (IBM b-type) storage network switch.

Testing focused on demonstrating ease of use for running enterprise applications and backup in the cloud, workflow automation, and integration with public cloud compute.

This report documents ESG’s validation of Dell Technologies performance testing of the VxRail Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) configured with Intel Optane persistent memory (PMem). The high performance that PMem adds enables organizations to bring mission-critical, high-performance workloads to VxRail, increasing the opportunities to gain from VxRail’s management, efficiency, and flexibility benefits.

We focus on how Vscale can maximize the value of converged and hyperconverged infrastructure by simplifying deployment and configuration of storage for workloads, easing how Cisco-based networks are extended across multiple sites, and delivering highly-performant hyperconverged infrastructure out of the box.
