Mark: Hi everyone. Mark Bowker, senior analyst here at ESG. Just want to talk about a couple things I observed at VMworld this year
One, I wasn't there in person. Kind of missed that, as many of you I'm sure did as well. The other thing is really looking at that end user computing group and what they've done. You've got to imagine that they've been extremely busy over the last few months.
In this world of VDI, or digital workspaces, lit up significantly, and people had to condense the amount of time that they've deployed this. And what VMware's really kind of shaped into, which is very interesting, is they've taken really a lot of their security investments and moved it into the digital workspace, to really help companies understand what if I have a device that I don't trust? What if I have somebody that's using a personal device? How can I more efficiently deploy devices, you know, corporate-wide?
And I think these things really matter, and they're going to matter not only as people obviously work through the pandemic. Work isn't going to be the same. We all know that people aren't going to transition all the way back to, you know, just inside an office, and the way people work's going to matter.
So I think the end user computing group really needs to look at is, hey, how are people using web applications together with Windows applications, together with mobile applications, together with even things like notification type of applications, and bringing that together, because this day of this predictable environment was sliding away pre-pandemic, and I think you're going to even see it slide away obviously even quicker than in the pass.
So, I like the way they're bringing a lot of the security features, zero trust things together, but I think that's only going to have to rotate further so people really truly understand how can I rely on VMware as a platform, together with I'll say the trust and security they've built up in these other tools that I've been using for years, and bring it into the platform?
When that happens, it's magic. Definitely check back with a lot of the ESG content we have around VMworld. Check in with what myself and other analysts are saying, and we look forward to kind of digesting a lot of this and working it into our research, and speaking with you all soon. Thank you.
