ESG's Mark Bowker discusses the Digital Workspace Ecosystem with Jens Schmidt of deviceTRUST.
Mark: Hi, Jens. How are you doing today?
Jens: Hi Mark. I'm very good, thanks. How are you?
Mark: I'm doing very good, you know. Thanks for joining. Now, one of the things that you and I have been talking about is this idea, this Digital Workspace Alliance. Give me a little bit of insight of what caught your attention there and some of the reasons why your office is participating in it.
Jens: So first of all, we are very happy to be part of the starting members of the Digital Workspace Ecosystem Alliance. I think it's a very important alliance which brings together a lot of technologies around digital workspaces, and therefore, we are quite happy because we're adding a part in the security area to these workspaces and we see many, many customers all benefit right now, looking at these technologies, especially in the actual situation, with people working from home or working from anywhere.
So there's a lot of demand in getting down with the different topics and getting to a point where you can provide effective agile workspaces to the users.
Mark: What about the concept or the idea, or just the term "digital workspace?" Is that something that you find resonates with customers or do think the alliance will help boost that, what resonates with them even further?
Jens: I think that the term "digital workspaces" has been around for quite some time, and the understanding is very difficult in many, many customers, and that's also one of the big topics for the alliance is to bring across what is possible with the digital workspace, what are the different areas you can focus on.
Mark: You mentioned this little tiny thing about security in the digital workspace. Talk to me a little bit more about that. What are you guys seeing that customers are coming to you specifically with some of their security needs.
Jens: Of course, in general, security is always an important topic, but even more when it comes to, let's say, work from anywhere, work from different locations, work with different endpoints, devices, and so on. What we are doing in this area is what we call contextual security, so we bring in the context into this game, that we are able to decide, based on the context, means the location, the endpoint, the surroundings the user is accessing the digital workspace from, and this be treated correctly, and we can apply all of the existing security and compliance policies.
Mark: Well, I think it's pretty fascinating. Those are certainly top of mind as people think about how they've handled remote work, what they may think about with their back-to-office plans, how they think through hybrid work. So I'm certainly going to be watching very closely, what you and the Digital Workspace Alliance are doing, and appreciate you taking the time to talk to us through things. And let's plan to connect again soon.
Jens: Perfect. Thanks for having us, and yeah, always a pleasure to speak to you.
