ESG's Mark Bowker discusses the challenges of connecting remote employees during times of social distancing with Vishal Ganeriwala of Citrix.
Mark: Hey, Vishal, how's it going? Thank you very much for joining us.
Vishal: Hey, good to see you, Mark. How are you?
Mark: I'm doing fine. It's interesting. You and I have been in this market for quite a few years, right? I don't want to show our age, but we've been at this for a while.
Vishal: Yeah.
Mark: It's been amazing over the last couple months here. I'm curious, kind of that turn of the first couple weeks of March, what's your experience been?
Vishal: Yeah, this has been the most incredible experience for me personally, and in a very fortunate position to help out customers. And, so you are absolutely right, Mark. The world changed on us instantly, right, and events like these don't come that often, but somewhere in middle of the March, Friday, we started getting all these customer calls from senior IT leaders, saying, "We will be sending all our employees home.
And, you know, help us out. Monday morning, everyone's home, and they will start working. So, Citrix, help us out. How can they get started?" and so on. So these were the calls we were getting. And we were in a very, very fortunate position on being empathetic with customers, and helping them both on how they can scale on-prem, and push into the cloud in a hybrid fashion, but a lot of our customers were also able to use our tested, scalable, and reliable solutions around remote PC access, able to push out that VDA instantly on their machines, having employees now connect back and get access to all their applications and data, to be productive.
Mark: Citrix is pretty unique position here, right? I mean, your customers that invested in you had those options that you just went through.
Vishal: Yeah.
Mark: That's pretty fortunate, right? I've seen a lot of folks that were very unplanned and kind of uncoordinated, and really still in a little bit of a panic or reaction mode today.
Vishal: Oh, yeah. You're absolutely right. And it's something, when I talk about some of the customer names, right, whether it's U.S. Departments of Veteran Affairs, who have to send thousands and tens of thousands of employees home, or Suncorp, Australia's largest financial services customers, so, they're able to now, you know, turn on, on a dime, and able to have all these employees work from home instantly, in a very secure and productive fashion.
And, the customers, Mark, who were actually on the cloud services saw an even easier scale out, because they didn't have to build out more infrastructure from our point of view. And the whole portfolio strength really helped out, from our ADC business, and SD-WAN business on cloud connectivity and reliable and scale things.
Mark: Vishal, it's super interesting to see how your customers are able to take all those different pieces and really put them to work for them today, in this unfortunate time, but because of what they've done with Citrix, whether they were invested a little bit or a lot, they're able to address this, so.
And it's also great to see things that you and I have talked about for years, people and businesses are really able enact on those now, so it's great to see it work.
Vishal: No, absolutely. And let me just tell you, Mark, very quickly on, when we talk to customers on what's next, the number one thing on their mind right now is now that everyone's home, how do I ensure my employees are productive, and how do I ensure my employees and users are secure? And, you know, again, pretty fortunate position with our portfolio, our productivity, analytics, and security analytics, we are able to provide that visibility and control which IT really needs to proactively act on some situation.
But absolutely great to see the industry, all the work we both have been doing for a while, and thank you so much for all the insights, actually, ESG and you provide to our customers. So highly recommended, you know, go check that out if you haven't looked at it, and keep rocking, and be safe.
Mark: All right, thank you very much, Vishal.
